96-Year-Old Clemmons Auctioneer Among 10 Licensees Honored by Agency for 50 Years of Active Licensure

(Fuquay-Varina, NC) - The North Carolina Auctioneer Licensing Board was created by the N.C. General Assembly in 1973, and has thus been in existence for 50 years. During its October Board of Directors meeting, the NCALB was pleased to honor nine Auctioneers and one Auction Firm that were issued licenses in 1973 and remain current and actively licensed in 2023. Those licensees are: Sen. Thomas M. McInnis, Pinehurst, NC Auctioneer License #25 Mr. James R. (Ronny) Causby, Morganton, NC Auctioneer License #37 Mr. Kevin D. McDaniel, Salisbury, NC Auctioneer License #48 Mr. Bobby F. Cheek, Clemmons, NC Auctioneer License #53 Mr. Richard M. Stafford, Charlotte, NC Auctioneer License #67 East Carolina Auction Company, Kinston, NC Auction Firm License #68 Mr. William L. York, Harmony, NC Auctioneer License #74 Mr. Jackie Ball, Marshall, NC Auctioneer License #139 Mr. Timothy E. Carpenter, Claremont, NC Auctioneer License #157 Mr. Bobby S. Melton, Shelby, NC Auctioneer License #166

Mr. Bobby F. Cheek of Clemmons started his auctioneering career in 1964, focused largely on estate auctions in Forsyth County and surrounding areas. Mr. Cheek recently turned 96! NCALB member T. Kyle Swicegood of Mocksville visited with Mr. Cheek at his home in Clemmons on October 30th to personally thank and congratulate him, and to present Mr. Cheek with a commemorative plaque. Swicegood told Cheek,  “The integrity in which you have demonstrated for 50 years is a lasting testament to your character. Auctioneers like me stand on your shoulders”

During the Board meeting earlier in the month, NCALB Chairman Daniel H. DeVane noted that "Auctioneers serve as fiduciaries, and they are entrusted with people's property and the proceeds from the sale of that property. The licensing system provides an important layer of protection for consumers." Additionally, DeVane stated that “This Board is proud to celebrate this fine group of honorees, and we sincerely thank each one for their long-standing service in the auction industry!”
